Public speaking
Transforming from managing self to managing others- the most difficult part is to become a good public speaker. A manager or a leader has to face groups of various sizes to give deliver a speech or give a presentation or reviewing the progress of a team, etc. Great leaders are not born great speakers.
Here’s an extract from the Wall Street Journal that published an article” Introverted Execs find a way to shine”
The Wall Street Journal's Joann Lublin wrote an article earlier this year: Introverted Execs Find a Way to Shine which cites several examples of shy leaders who have figured out a path to standing out. The list includes now-former Campbell Soup CEO Douglas Conant, and Google founder/CEO Larry Page-leaders who manage to flourish in spite of a strong cultural bias against their ilk.
As I was researching my new book, Discover Your CEO Brand, (which comes out in October) I noted that while many brand-name leaders are extroverts, there are numerous examples to the contrary. Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook is one of them. Granted, tech leaders get more buzz, and Zuckerberg is if nothing if not controversial, thanks to an unflattering portrayal of his character in the feature film The Social Network. Digital transparency is his thing - again - hiding behind electronics - he even publishes his whereabouts on Facebook. However, his discomfort speaking publicly is fading with experience. He's improved over time. (Link: http://www.bates-communications.com/powerspeakerblog/bid/58283/The-Introverted-Leader-and-Public-Speaking)
