Team Working:
“A team is a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, performance goals, and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable.”—From The Wisdom of Teams, Harvard Business School Press, 1993.
The challenge for a first-time manager is to keep the team intact and make every individual of the team be committed and focused towards a common goal of the team. Making a team work effectively is a process to understand.
The first step of team work is to make the team members feel comfortable with one another. This can be achieved by having informal team meets and hanging out outside work place. The next step is to bring a sense of oneness among the team. Team building exercises can help getting the team together.
The last stage is make the team work with a common objective towards a common goal. This can only be achieved through simple and clear directions of the manager.
A good team work always consists of these stages Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing.
